15 TO CLEAN = 5 Ingredients GONE
Park City School District (PCSD) Child Nutrition Services (CNS) succeeded in their goal to eliminate five unnecessary, potentially harmful ingredients from school food this year. Those ingredients were:
- Trans-fats
- High-Fructose Corn Syrup
- MSG
- Sucralose
- Sulphite/Sulfites
The removal of these ingredients took great effort and some of them, like high fructose corn syrup, took until Spring as it was found in many condiments that were difficult to replace. The new menu items introduced this year did not contain these ingredients and were made-from-scratch, onsite by CNS staff, who needed to learn new techniques and were challenged for time. EATS applauds the efforts of all involved and appreciates the district’s commitment to continuing this program until all the school food is free of unwanted ingredients.
