If They Cook It, They Will Eat It
EATS Cooking Classes for Better Health began in January during the after-school program at Parley’s Park elementary school, thanks to Vail’s EPIC Promise grant.
Guest chef, Alan Tran from USSA, teamed up with EATS Cooking Class Coordinator, Holly Wilkens, to create a recipe using locally-grown pea shoots, December’s Taste Test food. About 40 kids learned to make Stir-Fried Pea Shoots loaded with delicious ingredients. (Click here for recipe.) They were taught to cut, grate, measure and sauté while making a dish they were proud to eat and share.
EATS Park City began teaching kids to cook in 2013 and have seen the changes in kids’ awareness and attitudes toward healthier foods. They’ve learned healthy food can be tasty and easy to make. Cooking classes also take place monthly during McPolin’s after-school program. To volunteer to help, click here!
